The Mama Bag story is a very personal one. Hi, I am so happy you are here, I’m Jennifer O’Brien, founder and CEO of The Mama Bag. To understand the brand, I need to tell you a little about me and a lot about my journey into motherhood.
You see, organizing, labeling, preparing (a type A control freak some may say…) was my motto. I was ecstatic to be pregnant, nauseous, but on top of the world. By the time I was 20 weeks pregnant the nursery was well in progress, the cutest baby clothes were ordered, and the hand me downs were pouring in.
Along came the second trimester ultrasound that changed the course of everything. I was told I was in a high-risk pregnancy and that there were multiple genetic malformations possible for my baby. I no longer knew if I would go to term or if I would have a baby at the end of it all. My world stopped. I did not step foot into the nursery for weeks, I did not unpack the clothes and hopeful meditation was my saving grace.
At 34 weeks, after invasive procedures and before the results came in, I went into early labor. My doctor told me to head on over to the hospital and bring my bag. My bag? What bag? My mom and best friend threw what they found into a suitcase and off I went.
Turns out it was a false alarm and baby E stayed nice and warm another 6 weeks coming out a healthy 8-pound baby.
This brings us to the creation of The Mama Bag. I searched for how to pack a hospital bag, what is needed and what is fluff, I asked myself how I wanted to feel and how I wanted to enter motherhood? I wanted to feel celebrated, I wanted organic quality products that I looked good in through my metamorphosis from woman to super woman. In my search I never found a one stop shop that had everything I had in mind, so I created it.
